Eurotank decommissions five diesel tanks for Nottingham City Transport

Electrified fleet prompts decommissioning of diesel tanks

An increasingly electrified fleet of buses and a general excess tank capacity has been Nottingham City Transport’s motivation to decommission five diesel tanks.

Eurotank was brought in to clean the aboveground tanks via manned entry to ensure they were fully degassed and safe for transport, disconnect all pipework and remove the nuts from the tank legs on the floor, before having the tanks craned out and loaded onto trailers.

A spokesperson for Nottingham City Transport, said: “We run a mixed fleet of diesel, CNG and electric buses. As the diesel/CNG fleet is phased out, the aim will be to replace those taken out of service with electric buses.

“The diesel tanks always had a bigger holding capacity than we required. We were once upon a time a potential emergency refuelling station during the fuel strikes years ago. We don’t need that sort of capacity anymore, so by removing them we remove the ongoing cost, risk and the space they take up.”
