A simple clean fuelling point is required and often with an above ground diesel tank giving flexibility within the yard to relocate it in the future. HGV fuelling will also demand a good quality AdBlue tank and dispenser, but are you managing this fuel well? Can you account for every drop of HGV fuel oil/diesel dispensed?
Managing the costs of HGV fuelling
Managing even a small fleet of heavy good vehicles can be a challenge. There are many considerations before your attention is even drawn to the fuelling. In fact, on many occasion fleet managers only prioritise the HGV fuelling when they see the budget implications it can have in fuel oil loss, leakage or theft.
Therefore, a smart move is to stop false investment in fuel cards or poor quality installations and think to long term, in savings to be made and the impact on your site safety and environment.
Your HGV fuelling bill can be minimised by adopting the below suggestions
- A good electronic tank gauge that is measuring your HGV Fuel oil and Adblue®.stock levels around the clock. A sudden drop could indicate a theft and a slow steady drop could be a sign of a leak, either one of these scenarios indicate you are losing one of your depot’s biggest assets.
- An online Jigsaw Fuel management system that is connected to your electronic tank gauge. This allows for real time, around the clock and most importantly accurate fuel stock levels. Connecting the gauge and fuel management system ensures you are reconciling what the pump has dispensed against what has been drawn from the tank. If this is not identical there is something wrong.
- A preventative service and maintenance contract. Having an annual calibration to check on your pump and gauge along with inspections and any small repairs or part replacements being undertaken prior to a complete breakdown. A contract with Europump will also give you priory on call out times in the event of emergency call to our help desk.
- Lastly, install a second pump! A back up diesel pump always pays for itself in the event of your first pump failing and your HGV fuelling coming to a stand still or even worse having to pay forecourt fuel card prices.
